coming up for air....here's the things that i'm consumed with during my present hiatus from all things grad school related:
sonic ice water with various flavors of mio...the blind pilot album...the special edition of domino magazine...rangers baseball...mavs playoffs...sperry topsiders...madewell clothes...pinterest...running/bootcamp...fish tacos...scandal...new girl...blah, blah, blah.
while, i have a host of things that i would like to blog about, getting them on the computer is another story. and when i've been on the computer, it's for grad school. when they said 50-60 hours a week, i think they vastly underestimated how neurotic this overachiever actually is. four class in, i have a 4.0 and it is a HARD EARNED 4.0. two of the four classes have nothing to do with my degree program and have led me to question my sanity and selection of higher learning institutions.
and yet, i've learned some things along the way.
- knowing the class facilitator gets you absolutely nothing. if anything, it gives you less contact since they think they know you and don't have to worry about what you think of them. i call previous knowledge of a student a conflict of interest but apparently this higher institution would disagree.
- i would make friends with one of the oldest and most neurotic people in my program. three classes in, she actually makes me seem sane.
- i have an unhealthy obsession to write everything down in composition books which is ludicrous because i can go back and look at everything online.
- i use every english teacher's worst nightmare for citations...bibme
- i get physically angry with papers that are docked points, even just two points. especially when there is absolutely no feedback to explain deductions.
- the mla handbook is sadly a thing of the past.
- movies may seem like a great assignment until you have to virtually pick apart every aspect and conversation of said movie.
- all papers run together and i'm not sure how much they actually read as i've repeated many anecdotes and nothing was said about that.
- boasting about a program's online access to the school library is a joke. everything you need to access through said library will cost you an additional fee.
- group projects are insane in this type of environment. seven of these, i've done by myself due to various time zones and lack of effort on the part of others.
- its hard to work and learn at the same time. while my students are understanding and encouraging, sometimes i think they silently curse me and my horrific mood after a late night.
